Fr. Gordon Walker
The Very Reverend Gordon Thomas Walker is Pastor Emeritus
of St. Ignatius Orthodox Church, of Franklin, TN. He was
elevated to the rank of Archpriest by Metropolitan PHILIP Saliba
on February 21, 1987, at the time he and his congregation were
officially brought into canonical Orthodoxy. This occurred after
fourteen years of study with the group who had become known as
the' Evangelical Orthodox Church. He recently retired from his
full time position in New Church Development with the Department
of Missions and Evangelism for the Antiochian Orthodox Christian
Archdiocese. He served in that capacity for almost seven years
with Fr. Peter Gillquist, Director of the Department. Fr. Gordon
has founded, or participated in the founding of nineteen
Orthodox parishes and missions in his tenure as a Pastor and as
a Missionary Church Planter.
Father Walker is originally from Birmingham, Alabama and now resides with his wife, Khouriya Mary Sue and family in Franklin, Tennessee. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and French from Samford University, a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Counseling from the Graduate Theological Foundation. In addition, he has also done graduate work in Philosophy at Ohio State University.
From 1951 to 1963, he served as pastor in various Baptist churches in Alabama, Texas, California and Ohio. During the period of 1963 through 1968, he worked in the field of evangelism and missions as the Ohio Director for Campus Crusade for Christ. His base of operations was at The Ohio State University campus. During this time, he also served as Co<?rdinator of African Affairs for Campus Crusade, traveling widely on the African Continent.
After leaving the staff, of Campus Crusade in November of 1968, he and his wife and family moved to Mansfield, Ohio where he founded a church and the Grace Haven Ministry Center. In 1972, they moved to Nashville, Tennessee and founded an independent Protestant church and Bible teaching ministry. It was this congregation that made its' journey with him into canonical Orthodoxy. In 1973 he became a member of a group of ministers studying the Apostolic Fathers, early Church history and theology. During this time, a larger group formed around the leadership and work of the original six men. This larger group formed the Evangelical Orthodox Church in 1979 and was officially received into canonical Orthodoxy under Metropolitan PHILIP of the Antiochian Archdiocese in 1979. Fr. Gordon also served as Professor of Bible and Theology at St. Athanas ius Academy of Orthodox Theology in California from 1979 to 1982. From 1982 to Febru&ry 1996, Fr. Gordon served as Senio£ Pastor of the St. Ignatius Orthodox Church, Franklin, Tennessee, south of Nashville, TN.
