Mission & Purpose
The vision of those who support the Indonesian Orthodox Church is to infuse the local Indonesian culture with Orthodoxy and in the United States is to make known Orthodoxy among people of Oriental and Asian backgrounds. It is hoped that the Orthodox Church in Indonesia reflects the local culture, reaching people on a familiar and cultural level. Also it is the hope of this organization to serve the Indonesian and other Asian ethnics who live in the States with the message of salvation as it was taught by the Apostles that has been kept intact by the Orthodox Church, in the context of their traditional cultures. These goals are accomplished through:
- preaching;
- Bible study;
- direct personal evangelism;
- friendship evangelism;
- the distribution of literature;
- radio broadcasting;
- seminars;
- socialization; and
- mission travels.
Bible studies are offered not just for those who are already Orthodox Christians but to any interested person and often attract individuals from a wide variety of faiths, including Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. The priests who serve the mission parishes are Indonesian converts to the faith who can relate well to their parishioners and those who are inquiring about the Orthodox faith.
